Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in a virtual conference with various European leaders prior to his in-person meeting with Donald Trump in Washington scheduled for tomorrow. The dialogue lasted approximately two and a half hours, as reported by Radio Liberty.

– The conversation revolved around critical topics, including the urgent need to halt the violence in Ukraine, the dedication to sustain comprehensive pressure on Russia through sanctions, the principle that Ukraine retains the authority to make decisions regarding its territory, and the crucial matter of dependable security guarantees that safeguard the essential interests of both Ukraine and Europe, – the spokesperson for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shared regarding the outcomes of the meeting.

Following this, Volodymyr Zelensky departed from the European Commission building and proceeded to the airport for his journey to Washington. A meeting involving the leaders of Ukraine and the United States is set to occur in the US capital on Monday, August 18, with several European leaders also traveling to Washington.

Zelensky further described it as a “historic decision” that the United States is “prepared to engage in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.”

“The security assurances that emerge from our collaborative efforts must be genuinely practical and offer protection on land, in the air, and at sea, and should also be developed with European collaboration,” he remarked.
