The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, engaged in several significant international discussions and participated in the latest meeting under the “Ramstein” format. Following these discussions, the head of state declared an enhancement of military assistance for Ukraine from its allies and reiterated the call for increased pressure on the Russian Federation to promote peace. Zelenskyy shared this update during his evening address on Telegram.
Zelenskyy mentioned that he spoke with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. They explored the current international landscape, diplomatic avenues, collaboration within security frameworks, and Ukraine's European aspirations. A phone conversation with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz also occurred on Wednesday, focusing on the execution of agreements made during the recent visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Berlin. Zelenskyy briefed the Chancellor on the outcomes of the meetings in Turkey and highlighted the necessity for achieving a fair and lasting peace on the European continent. Furthermore, the President of Ukraine participated in the regular meeting of the Contact Group concerning Defense Issues of Ukraine in the “Ramstein” format.
– Today, the Ramstein meeting took place, and it is crucial that this collaborative framework with our partners remains intact. We are formulating decisions to bolster our collective defense production alongside our allies. This pertains to long-term security—these are our assurances, European assurances, guarantees for everyone that Russian aggression will not be able to extend and will not reap rewards. Russia must genuinely feel that war is more detrimental than peace. This is precisely the purpose of the sanctions, particularly against their oil trade, – Zelensky emphasized.
He also emphasized the necessity of consistent defense support for Ukraine from global partners, as well as the establishment of a clear framework for the post-war reconstruction and advancement of the nation. According to the head of state, the international community must exhibit resolve and cohesion in opposing Russian aggression to ensure stability and security across Europe.
- On June 4, Zelenskyy indicated his willingness to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin without a ceasefire.
- Zelensky also referred to the Russian memorandum that Moscow handed over to Kyiv during the second round of negotiations in Istanbul as “spam.”
