President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that prisoner exchanges with Russia are set to proceed next week. He made this statement during his customary evening address.

– We are actively working to bring back the remaining individuals currently held in Russian captivity. We anticipate that the exchanges will continue next week, as is the agreement in place. We are optimistic that the Russian side will honor its humanitarian commitments and carry them out as discussed.

“Today, I had a conversation with Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, regarding the exchanges and further actions to be taken. I assigned very specific objectives. We also thoroughly examined the significance of the upcoming diplomatic initiatives and what must be guaranteed for the negotiation process,” Zelensky remarked.

Zelensky emphasized that on Saturday, during the fourth exchange within a week, it was possible to return, notably, the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal. According to the president, all of them are receiving essential care following their injuries and the harsh conditions endured in Russian captivity. He noted that some of the released individuals are in very critical condition.

  • On June 14, Ukraine and Russia conducted a new round of prisoner exchanges. Another group of our defenders made their way back home.
