The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, urged for heightened pressure on Russia to bring the war to a conclusion. He stated that the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, understands only the language of strength and has no intention of halting the conflict at this time. This was particularly highlighted by the extensive assaults on Ukrainian cities that occurred last night. The head of state conveyed this message during his customary evening address.
– This conflict must be brought to a close. We need to exert pressure on Russia to cease hostilities. Putin responds only to force and pressure. Naturally, we are doing, and will continue to do, everything necessary to safeguard our nation and protect our citizens. President Trump is entirely correct: this should not be limited to defense alone. Simultaneously, we are not diminishing our diplomatic efforts and maintaining all communications with our allies, so that negotiations can still occur, particularly those that can foster global peace, – Zelensky expressed. National security advisers are actively engaged – they held discussions yesterday, and there is ongoing communication today as well. At their level, the military leaders – the Supreme Commander and the General Staff – are focusing on the military aspects of Ukraine's security assurances. Currently, the framework for Ukraine's future security architecture is being developed day by day.
The President also mentioned that each day will bring new initiatives from partners in support of Ukraine. He expressed gratitude to all those who support Ukraine and strive for a swift resolution to the war.
- On August 21, Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine would begin large-scale production of long-range Flamingo missiles within a few months.
- On August 19, Zelensky observed that Ukraine “senses the strength” of the resolve and backing from its partners. It will do “everything to transform the path to peace into reality – thanks to collaboration, security assurances, and the bravery of the Ukrainian people.”
