The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, remarked that the Russians in the Sumy region had a range of outrageous plans, but the Defense Forces successfully thwarted them. Currently, the Ukrainian military is effectively holding back the enemy. The head of state conveyed this during his customary evening address.
– The headquarters provided a comprehensive update on the front lines. Particular focus was directed towards the Sumy region and activities in the border area. I am thankful to our troops for their fortitude. The Russians had various schemes there, their intentions were utterly insane, as is often the case. We are countering and neutralizing these criminals, safeguarding our Sumy region, – Zelensky stated.
The President further noted that on Friday, Russia once again made it clear that it does not intend to agree to a ceasefire. According to Zelensky, Russia is eager to continue fighting and continues to make overt threats. “This indicates that they are not yet affected by the pressure being applied by the world. Or they are attempting very hard to maintain such a facade. Well, the Russian economy is already on a downward trajectory, and we will further bolster this trend,” the Head of State added.
- Prior to this, Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine is prepared for high-level negotiations to end the war. At the same time, it is critically important for Kyiv to conclude the conflict with Russia while Donald Trump is still President of the United States.
- On June 19, Zelensky announced that Ukraine would align its sanctions with partners and intensify pressure on the Russian energy sector.
